Former Olympic pentathlete opens Littlehampton complex

FORMER Olympic champion Dame Mary Peters was the guest of honour for the launch of a new retirement complex in Littlehampton.

Gold medal-winning pentathlete Dame Mary officially opened Claridge House in Church Street at a champagne reception.

The home is the first tailored care living complex to be built in the UK by developers McCarthy & Stone, and is being marketed as an alternative to traditional residential care homes.

Dame Mary, who travelled from Belfast to open the development, said: “I was invited to be the new face of McCarthy & Stone’s tailored care living, because someone clearly remembered my success at the Munich games and because there’s going to be a scheme to keep the people in these homes fit and active.

“The facilities here are beautiful, absolutely beautiful. If they had something like this in Belfast, I would snap it up in a second.”

The site features 59 two and one-bedroom apartments, each with a kitchen, living space and easy access for those who have difficulties getting around. There is also a well-being suite which offers a range of hairdressing and beauty treatments.

McCarthy & Stone says tailored care is a flexible scheme offering residents the chance to own their own property, while also receiving specialised, individual treatment.

Prices start at £188,950. For more information about tailored care call Claridge House on 01903 730133.
