Freemasons lodge two cheques with Bexhill Caring Community

TWO cheques were presented to the Bexhill Caring Community to enable essential items to be purchased for the new Day Centre which opened in August.

The sum of £1,070 was raised from a race night that the Bexhill Freemasons Lodge held earlier in the year.

A further £600 was added to this from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sussex’s Sussex 4 Sussex Charity fund, making a total of £1670. The Sussex 4 Sussex Charity over the last few years has given out more than £2 million to deserving charities in the county.

This money is raised by the Sussex Freemasons from their personal donations.

The venue for the race night was by courtesy of the Bexhill Conservative Club.

At the race night representatives of Bexhill Caring Community came along. This was their first time at this type of fundraising event and told members of Bexhill Lodge it was a most enjoyable and fun evening.

The cheques were presented to Margaret Von Speyr, outgoing Bexhill Caring Community office manager, by Bexhill Lodge secretary Alf Durrant and the charity steward Ian Standley.

Mrs von Speyr said she was delighted to receive them as it was one of the last of her duties as after many devoted years to Bexhill Caring Community.

It was she who in 2009 approached the Trustees with the idea that the garage at the back of the premises in Sackville Road could be converted into a community room.

This was agreed and the new room was opened in March.

In August the voluntary day centres were dissolved and transferred to the Bexhill Caring Community, which gave a need for funding the Day Centre so that the necessary equipment could be purchased.
