From catwalk to cakewalk

A Battle business-woman has proved she is as creative in the kitchen as she is with fashion styles by winning a prestigious bake-off competition.

Mary Knight specialises in ladies’ fashions and styles and runs Koko in Battle.

She said: “Cooking cakes was always a hobby and I always enjoyed high teas.

I started to make cakes myself and family and friends said I should enter a competition. I entered a competition in Henley, with many contenders.

I was asked to produce a presentation of cakes and preserves.

Mary, who celebrated 20 years in business last year, had to follow tough W.I. recipes and produce four different kinds of cake.

She commented: “It was such shock to go back in after the judges had tasted the cakes and to find out I had won the title of Cook of the Year. It really has been catwalk to cake walk! Maybe I feel another business venture coming on.
