From Dust To Dust

TWO funeral limousines may have to be written off after they were involved in a triple-car crash on the A259 at Lancing on Friday afternoon

The 10-year-old Daimlers, owned by H. D. Tribe Ltd, of Broadwater Road, Worthing, were on their way to Shoreham to pick up relatives to attend a cremation service at Worthing when the accident occurred.

A third car in front of the Daimlers was involved in the nose-to-tail shunt. There were no other occupants in the Daimlers apart from the drivers.

"The main thing is that noone was hurt," said Max Webber, a director of Tribes.

"We contacted the families immediately and other arrangements were made for them to attend the cremation," he told the Herald.

"I am going to see the cars this afternoon. but I fear that they may be write-offs. Unfortunately, these things happen from time to time."

Mr Webber said the Daimlers were worth about 15,000 each before the crash. "Now, it would cost 67,000 per vehicle to replace them new, and that would have to be done if the damaged vehicles were written off. One is being replaced this afternoon. As far as the public are concerned, they won't know the difference in service," said Mr Webber.
