Fun games as young join obesity project

Fun games and activities were enjoyed by 18 youngsters from Bognor Regis and Littlehampton who had tackled obesity and inactivity.

The children were the first members of the MEND project and took part in the exercise as part of their graduation ceremony.

A large inflatable assault course, parachute games and basketball were among the enjoyments to be had at the Arun Leisure Centre.

The MEND project '“ Mind, Exercise, Nutrition and Do It! '“ is designed to educate children and their families about the benefits of healthy eating and an active lifestyle.

Its organisers at Arun District Council, Inspire Leisure and West Sussex NHS Primary Care Trust intend it to change unhealthy habits through education and fun.

Three ten-week programmes took place in 2007. One was in Bognor.

They will be followed by activities to help the children maintain their recently-acquired good habits.

Hazel Flack, the programme manager from Arun, said: "We are all really proud of the children.

"Their attitude, effort and desire to learn how to help themselves was overwhelming."
