GALLERY: Bognor School of Music holds guitar festival

Several hundred people turned Bognor Regis into the guitar capital of southern England. The large turnout of participants and spectators came from as far afield as Bristol for the latest West Sussex guitar festival.

This was staged over two recent weekends at the Regis School of Music in Sudley Road. One weekend was given over to under-18 players. The other saw adults prove their virtuoso talents on the stringed instrument.

More than 170 entries were attracted to the occasion. The adjudicators for the festival were two prestigious and celebrated guitarists '“ Paul Gregory for the under-18s and Graham Devine for the adult classes.

Both praised the players for their dedication and high standard of performance.

This saw a number of prizes donated by sponsors in addition to the usual numerous trophies available to the top players.

The prizes were awarded by Arun District Council chairman Cllr Ashvin Patel in recognition of the festival taking place during Arun peace week. The scholarship for an under 18-year-old to attend the four-day West Dean international guitar festival next August was won by Sam Brown, from Elmer, with Bristol's Zoe Green as the runner-up.

A Camps classical guitar and case was won by James Li-Kam-Tin from Eastergate. University of Chichester music student Samuel Stormont won a copy of Sibelius G7 composition software for his composition, Grave con Expressione, written for guitar and two flutes.
