Garage and shed break-in warning

A spate of burglaries from garages and sheds has prompted police to urge public vigilance.

Freezers have been emptied of their food, bicycles and golf clubs stolen, along with a cooker, three piece suite and power tools, in a series of recent break-ins in Lancing, Rustington, Littlehampton, Chichester and Worthing.

Police are advising homeowners to anchor expensive machinery to a secure fitting within a garage or shed with high tensile cable.

Security lights are also recommended as a useful deterrent to thieves, as are alarms.

A police spokesman said: "We are asking residents to be vigilant and take steps to secure their property. Ensure that valuables are not left in a garage or shed, which need to be kept locked."

An alarm, costing 6, is available from the local Neighbourhood Watch Association by contacting Ivor Webb on 0845 60 70 999 ext 81214.
