Generous Bexhill company helps Alfie to see children's bedrooms for the first time

Alfie Peak was in hospital for seven months following the attack in Sea Road in July 2013.

He uses a powered wheel chair to get around his home but has never been able to go upstairs in the house and has never seen his children’s bedrooms.

But now Alfie will be able to get upstairs to put 12-year-old Summa and five-month-old Marley to bed, thanks to a generous donation from Bexhill company Prestige Stairlifts.

Alfie’s partner, Tanya White, told the Observer: “Prestige Stairlifts advertised a competition to win a stairlift and one of Alfie’s family mentioned it to me so we wrote a nomination in for Alfie to say how it would make a difference as he had never been upstairs in the house and never seen the children’s bedrooms or the upstairs bathroom.

“And luckily he won.”

Tanya says Alfie was thrilled by the win.

She said: “He’s super happy. Really, really excited.

“It’s a really lovely thing to do and I’m so grateful.”

Unfortunately Alfie has not been able to use his new stairlift as he has recently been discharged from hospital after breaking his hip and elbow following a fall.

But up until his fall, Alfie had been making progress.

Tanya explained: “He’s still fighting and he’s still trying his best.

“He’s having treatment and physiotherapy.

“Before he broke his hip he was relearning to walk with a frame with support from people.”

Tanya added: “The stairlift is amazing, it’s life-changing.

“It’s a brilliant, brilliant thing.”

Peter O’Donoghue, managing director of Prestige Stairlifts, said: “Now Alfie will be able to go upstairs and put his children to bed.

“Until now upstairs has been out of bounds.

“We are really pleased to be able to give something back to the community and install this stairlift for Alfie Peak and his family.”
