Aspiring dance music lyricist Matt Lennox and his younger brother Paul fended off global competition from almost 19,000 other musicians to reach the final 16 of a prestigious music competition – judged by rockers Duran Duran and chart-topping dance act Avicii.

Matt, who lives with his wife Lisa and six-year-old daughter Lucy at their home in Rosemead, said: “We never imagined we would ever get that far.

“We started producing songs last July and we got our track Hero to a certain stage of production and just sent it in. To be honest, we completely forgot about it.

“We never thought we would get to the finals.”

Matt, 39, said a few months went by when the duo got an email, over Christmas, letting them know they had been selected from thousands of others reaching the semi-finals.

Then, weeks later, they discovered their track had been whittled down to the final 16 and was set to be judged by top music moguls from the industry.

Matt, who by day is a sales manager for a health care company, said: “We were both just totally amazed.

“The song wasn’t even in a finished state. We were shocked and of course very excited.”
