Glyne Gap School's Governing Body receives award

Glyne Gap's governing body was one of seven schools in the region to receive the award, which was presented at The County Council's annual Good Governance Awards held at Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston on 13 July.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of school governors across the county with special awards for excellence and dedication.

Penny Gaunt, Deputy Director of Children's Services at East Sussex County Council, presented the awards.

In doing so she paid tribute to governing bodies that had received an outstanding grade in recent Ofsted inspections, and to long-serving governors who had devoted 20 years to one or more governing bodies.

Councillor David Elkin, East Sussex County Council's Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness said:

"A strong and effective governing body is vitally important to the success of any school so I am delighted to have this chance every year to publicly applaud the achievements and dedication of governors."

The seven school governing bodies who received awards for achieving their Outstanding Ofsted grade were:

* Glyne Gap School

* Robsack Wood Community Primary School, St Leonards

* Beacon Community College

* Danehill CE Primary School

* Heathfield Community College

* St Mark's CE Primary School, Hadlow Down

* The Priory School, Lewes

The occasion was also used to present seven accredited governor's clerks with their BTEC certificates after they successfully completed the national qualification.

The afternoon finished with strawberries and cream for all the winners and guests.
