Golden couple Pat and Brian

They met when they were both in the local church choir - Pat was eight years old and Brian was nine.

They've been together ever since, and now Pat and Brian Tofts are celebrating 50 years of marriage.

Their golden wedding anniversary is tomorrow, Saturday March 28, and the couple will this weekend enjoy a family party at the Cooden Beach Hotel.

Pat and Brian live now in Fairfield Chase but both were born in St Albans and grew up there. Having met at church choir they went on the join the Fellowship Club and took part in several shows.

When they became teenagers they took up sport such as lawn tennis, with Pat winning several cups as well as local acclaim.

They became engaged in 1956 and married in 1959 after Brian's two year National Service. The ceremony took place in Frogmore Parish church where they first met.

The couple took over the family business in 1965 and retired in 1988 to Bexhill.

They have a daughter Sarah and a grand-daughter Alex, as well as Pat's mother Beatrice Horlock who celebrated her 100th birthday last year and is well known locally.
