Toni James held her charity day at the Rustington Golf Course, in Golfers Lane, on Saturday (March 18), raising £295.

However, the first-time captain was stunned when other donations poured in from across the club, boosting her grand total to £920.90.

Toni, 67, of Holmes Lane, Rustington, said: “I don’t have any words to explain how grateful I am. I’m just proud of the people that have supported me. I never expected to raise so much so quickly.”

Toni, who works part-time at Tesco, is fundraising for the Sussex Heart Charity, which has donated a defibrillator to the golf club.

The great-grandmother-of-one added: “I have had family and friends who have had heart problems and you never know when you, or a loved one, might need a defibrillator.”

The day featured an 18-hole competition, beat-the-pro match, putting competition and a raffle.

Toni thanked all those who donated, including Tesco, in Broadpiece.
