Golfers' cash drive in Felpham teen's memory

The sportsmen and women took part in the first Daniel Hoare Charity Fun Day at Bognor Regis Golf Club.

It was staged to honour the life of keen golfer Daniel, who died from a heart condition aged 18 last November.

The day’s proceeds of £3,034.50 are going to the British Heart Foundation.

James Maclean, the club co-ordinator at the golf club, said: “The day was absolutely fantastic.

“Everyone had a wonderful time remembering Daniel and celebrating his life. We cannot wait to do the same again next year.”

Daniel was a keen golfer. He had helped the club to win the West Sussex League in the final season before his death.
He had also played for the Sussex under-14 and under-16 teams.

The recent day in his memory started with 120 people playing golf. The Bognor club members were joined by visitors from clubs such as Worthing, Littlehampton, Hill Barn, Ham Manor and Rustington.

The beautiful weather meant that, as groups played down the 18th hole, they could be greeted by the Fabulous Tomato Brothers playing outside on the patio.

The competition was a fourball team event. The winners were The Dream Team of Jake Stoneham, Scott Bingham, George Bingham and Ryan Maskell.

They scored 120 points and their young members proved fitting first winners. Second place went to Ian Paine, John Cable, Trevor Rich and Brian Arnell with 116 points in Jack’s Team. Also on 116 points in third place were the Nutters of Nathan Parke, Jack Bingham, Shaun Maskell and Rob Johnson.

The golf was followed by a barbecue enjoyed by all the players. Most people stayed all afternoon and enjoyed the music outside in the sun. All Daniel’s friends and family were invited to the evening’s entertainment.

The auction alone raised £1,075 thanks to those who donated lots. Oliver Turnill brought in £355 with a Beat the Pro competition on the fifth hole.

A chance to sponsor a hole also raised £450 towards the final total.
