‘Good’ Angmering School praised by education watchdogs

EDUCATION watchdogs Ofsted have judged a secondary school in Angmering as “good,” it was announced this week.

Inspectors from the organisation have praised the leadership, quality of teaching and overall student community at the school, which in its last inspection, in 2010, only attained an overall “satisfactory” mark.

Head teacher David Brixey, said: “I am very pleased with our Ofsted report. It shows how much we have improved over the last three years.

“This is thanks to excellent work by all of our staff.

“I am very proud that the report has lots of very positive things to say about our students.

“The inspectors have given us some pointers towards becoming outstanding.

“Each of these is already in our development plan so I am confident that our school, will continue to get better and better.”

The report highlighted that attainment across the key subjects of English, maths and science had “significantly improved” since the last inspection.

It also noted that some aspects of the teaching were “outstanding”.

Particular reference was paid to the Lavina Norfolk Centre, which caters for student with disabilities.

The report said: “The Lavinia Norfolk Centre is a source of inspiration for all students. Its impact on the development of their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is excellent.”

However, inspectors said the school still needed to focus on improving the quality of teaching and marking to become “outstanding”.
