Good causes receive welcome boostfrom Hastings Carnival collection

Hastings Old Town Carnival Association handed out several thousand pounds to local charities and good causes in a special presentation night at the Angling Club on Sunday.

Carnival spokesman Ion Castro said: “The collections were about the same as last year, amounting to over £10,000. Unfortunately this whole amount could not be distributed to local good causes because of paying for insurance, Performing Rights other essential costs considerably reduced the amount available

“Donations were made to the street bands who livened up the carnival route before the carnival and to the following local good causes;-

Storytellers, Conquest Hospital Radio, Gateway Club, Hastings and Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind, Hastings Bonfire Society, in recognition of marshalling, St. Clement’s Night Church, Association of Carers, Hastings Sanctuary service, Brownies and Rainbows and Guides, Hastings and St.Leonards Lifeguard Club, Hastings Coast Guard Association, Surviving Christmas, Snowflake Trust, Parchment Trust, Local Citizens Advice Bureau, Penny Beale, Seaview project, Hastings Wanderers, Fishermen’s Museum. Hastings Pensioners Association, the Lifeboat and West Hill Youth Club.

“The presentation evening is a reflection of the success of the Carnival and Pram Race and don’t forget the Association’s AGM will be held in the Committee Room of the East Hastings Sea Angling Association on Wednesday Evening, November 23 at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.”
