A TRIP to the shop to buy the Worthing Herald has changed Stephen Stannard's life '“ because the Lotto ticket he bought on the same visit won the £8.5 million jackpot.

The ironic thing is that the shop, Martin's newsagent in Strand Parade, Goring, had sold out of the Herald so Stephen selected two other papers and had enough change to buy a Lotto ticket.

He said: "I don't buy a ticket every week. I had gone on Saturday morning to buy the Herald but they had sold out so I bought a Lotto ticket instead."

Stephen, a builder from West Worthing, didn't discover he had the only jackpot-winning ticket until Sunday morning when he turned on his computer at 8am.

The 46-year-old said: "The first thing I did was check if I'd won. I couldn't believe it '“ I thought this can't be right.
