Gordon wants to show Bognor how it's done

Foul-mouthed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been challenged to visit Bognor Regis after he branded the town a culinary disaster.

Ramsay wants to expand his work in helping struggling chefs in TV's Kitchen Nightmares into helping entire towns.

Bognor is one of the places he has suggested could benefit from his expertise.

But the idea his comments have left Maria Vanressen, the owner of Little Holland restaurant in Aldwick Road, less than impressed.

She said: 'Let him come over, bring it on. Whatever he wants to do, we will show him how it's done.

'Everything is cooked fresh in our restaurant, unlike a lot of restaurants that use microwaves. So, I doubt he'll find anything wrong here.'

She admitted to being a huge fan of Ramsay in spite of his infamous bad language.

However, she added: 'I watch him on TV trying to turn restaurants around to make money.

'But most of them end up going downhill afterwards anyway, so he can't be that good.'

Ramsay made his disparaging remarks after he had finished filming his latest series of Kitchen Nightmares for Channel 4.

He said: 'I now want to expand the whole idea and try to sort out not just individual restaurants, but a whole town.

'I want people to nominate the worst eating-out place in Britain. It shouldn't be hard to find. There are plenty of them.

'I wouldn't be surprised if it's a seaside town, somewhere like Bognor Regis or Skegness.'

His comments come as Bognor is about to undergo a regeneration in which new restaurants and bars are due to be created.

Deputy town mayor Cllr Jennifer Gillibrand commented: 'Ramsay's attitude is making Bognor somewhere you wouldn't want to go to eat out.

'If people want Ramsay's help, then he is welcome.

'I just hope it generates positive publicity and doesn't make the area the butt of a joke.'
