Government grant will help Yapton

VOLUNTEERS in Yapton are celebrating a government grant to help them plan the future of their village.

The residents on the Yapton Neighbourhood Planning Group have received £20,000 towards their work.

The plan is being compiled by them, with the support of Yapton Parish Council, to establish a vision for the village’s evolution and long term sustainability.

Andy Faulkner, the group’s joint chairman, said: “This is great news for Yapton as we develop this important plan for our future. This grant shows a genuine desire by the government to help communities to complete their plans.”

But Mr Faulkner said the real key to a successful plan was community involvement.

“We’ve had a fantastic response so far. We are really keen to hear the views of the younger element of Yapton, not just the teenagers but young couples with young families. Their thoughts on the future, especially on key issues like education and employment, are vital.”

The neighbourhood planning group is asking Yapton’s residents to complete a survey about how they would like to see the village develop.

Surveys can be found and completed online at www.ynp.org.uk. A copy will be available in the next edition of the parish magazine and drop off points in the village. The closing date is May 31.
