Their large display, named The Oak Tree, has been placed in the South Transept and features a beautiful floral display, surrounded by artwork inspired by their lessons in nature.

Working with art teacher Dominique Kenway, the children used the theme “creating memories in nature” to document their experiences at forest school and translate them into works of art.

Using cyanotype paper, the children took photos of little natural treasures they found on nature walks and in forest school. Some have used prints of dandelions and goosegrass, whilst others have used sticks and feathers to make striking patterns.

Each cyanotype photo was then turned into a blue bauble, which hangs effectively from a wide hoop which runs between three trees.

Deputy Headteacher and Reception Class teacher, SJ Wethered, said: “We are very proud of what we have achieved over the last half term. It’s exciting to see our children’s artwork in the Cathedral.”

Ms Wethered said the display reflects the school’s position in the South Downs and its approach to outdoor learning and nature. She said that when floral designer Caroline Daines, who is the creative force behind the festival, approached the school, they “couldn’t wait to take part.”

Headmaster Charles Beckerson said, “The children have loved creating their cyanotype artwork for the Festival of Flowers, and they have been very fortunate to work with our gifted art teachers.”

The Festival of Flowers runs until 6th June at Chichester Cathedral.
