Graffiti criminal sought by police

A GRAFFITI criminal has gone on a paint spraying spree, desecrating a range of of private and public property in the local area, and is being sought by police.

An officer from Sussex police, PS Reeve-Fowkes said: "Over the last few days there has been a spate of graffiti in Bexhill from Glyne Gap to the Downs including the underpass at Belle Hill.

"The tag MONK has been sprayed in black paint on over 25 surfaces including litter bins, beach huts, fences and doors at the rear of Tesco, Ravenside.

"This tag is now being written all over town as well as Battle - we are investigating these offences of graffiti and hope that we can identify the offender soon. Graffiti is unlawful and is criminal damage."

Police say the offender is more than likely to be on a bike and carrying the cans in a rucksack, as to carry out the amount of graffiti offences that have been committed, more than one can would have been used.

PS Reeve-Fowkes added: "There is a large cost implication to Rother District Council who clean up the majority of this graffiti."

Rother District Council sense of place environmental enforcement manager Michael Adams said:

"The Council are aware of this case, this is criminal damage and we are working with Sussex Police to identify the offenders and prosecute."
