Grant helps provide valuable break

THE latest round of funding for community schemes in the Downland area will help pay for a short break for the brothers and sisters of children with life limiting illnesses.

The siblings are being taken camping for a weekend, organised by the West Sussex children’s hospice Chestnut Tree House, near Arundel.

West Sussex County Council members agreed £1,360 funding towards the trip at a meeting of the Joint Downland Area Committee on Monday October 18.

The money has come from the county council Community Initiative Fund.

Three other grants were agreed:

· £1,500 to Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre to help pay for the purchase and installation of security fencing.

· £1,200 towards a Town Crier competition for Arundel, which will help boost tourism.

· £750 to community group Arun Exact to help them set up a new district-wide drug and alcohol project offering peer-to-peer support.

Committee Chairman Christina Coleman said: “We take these decisions very seriously and I feel confident that each of the four we are helping this month are very deserving of the funding we have agreed.

“The Community Initiative Fund is open to all organisations who support their local community in the Downland Arun area.

“I look forward to seeing the results this round of funding brings.”

The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Monday 24 January, venue to be confirmed.
