Grants for 13 to 18 year olds available from Horsham Lions

Financial awards are available to 13 to 18 year olds in need of support with regard to their further education or apprenticeship; teenagers travelling abroad to do charity work; young musicians who may need help with instruments; and apprentices with tools to purchase.

These are all for individual applicants but youth organisations and clubs that exist to help with the disabled and frail, youth clubs involved with sport and other activities such as conservation or environmental projects are also eligible to apply. A grant could be used to help with sports equipment or put towards an outing organised for the disabled and handicapped.

The Lions first ran Youth Project Scheme in 2011 and an application form to apply for grants this year can be found on page 75 on this Thursday’s paper.

Grants of up to £500 are available, and will be made to both individuals and organisations.

In 2011 a number of groups received funding including Sunbeam Swimming Club, Horsham Lifesaving Club, Horsham Guides, Needles Youth Club, Roffey Youth Centre, The Springboard Project, and Southwater Sea Scouts.

Individuals assisted financially included Naomi Fry, who won funding for a trip to Moldovia, and Harriet Upton, a junior international equestrian, hoping to compete for Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics.

Applications must be made by September 15, 2013, and grants will be presented at a special ceremony in October.
