Grateful mother hands over large donation to St Richard's neonatal

A grateful mother handed over a large cheque to St Richard's neonatal unit today (July 18) as a thank you for their exceptional care for her '˜miracle baby'.

Victoria Warrington donated £1,326 to the ward after deciding to do something special with the funds leftover from her neonatal baby’s treatment.

Baby Harry was born with plagiocephaly – a condition where his head is flattened on one side.

After appealing for £2,000 to buy a specialised helmet designed to reshape Harry’s head whilst the bone tissue is still soft, Chichester charity Give 4 BETH donated £1,500 – making up their total.

However, now the helmet has been fitted and Harry has been cared for, Victoria decided to put the money remaining to a good cause.

Victoria Warrington, 37, from Havant, said: “I feel like I have done what I set out to do – it is a big achievement.

“I feel very sentimental coming back here and seeing where Harry was cared for.”

Victoria gave birth to her ‘miracle baby’ Harry through advanced IVF in March 2015, after years of fertility issues.

However, baby Harry had to be transferred to the neonatal unit shortly after the birth due to low blood sugar and low calcium levels.

“When they took him away from me it didn’t feel real, like I hadn’t had him. I had been waiting so long for him.

“When I saw him for the first time in neonatal I was so scared I was going to pick him up and break him.

“The midwife sat with me for about an hour until I was ready to hold him.

“I thought at that moment – if I can do something to help you then I will.”

“The care they gave me was just above and beyond,” added Victoria.

Zita Warren, ward manager at St Richard’s neonatal unit, said: “We are just absolutely delighted, we want to say a massive thank you to the Warrington family for this cheque.

“Every bit of support we get we are so grateful for, and this money will go towards lifesaving equipment which is so important.”
