Green plan to lower Arundel's carbon footprints

A FANFARE will welcome the launch of the Arundel Greening Campaign on Saturday, as organisers urge everyone to get involved.

The campaign aims to get all residents cutting carbon emissions, and cards will be given out at the launch detailing simple ways this can be done, such as turning off lights.

Kay Wagland, of the campaign, which has been organised by the Arundel Agenda 21 group, said: "This is a real community event, and a fun way of getting everyone involved in action on climate change.

"The actions on the cards are small steps towards people making a difference together, and are something that we can build on."

Residents who take up the pledges are asked to display the cards in their windows, so the amount of carbon saved will be calculated based on how many organisers can spot around the town.

The launch event, which will be introduced by the Duchess of Norfolk, will be held at the castle, where there will be all manner of music and craft activities, from 1-4pm.

Just before then, staff and doctors from Arundel Surgery will be leading a noisy, musical walk from the practice, where participants are invited to gather at 12.15pm, though the Town Square, where local band

The Alternatives will be playing, and up to the castle.

Other tips printed on the cards are walking all journeys under one mile, topping up loft insulation to 270mm, draught-proofing doors, windows, letter boxes and keyholes, and only boiling the amount of

water needed.
