PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY: The club held the Print and PDI Landscape Competitions on Thursday evening which was judged by Richard Walton FRPS. John Deller acting for the chairman for the evening welcomed Richard and told members that Richard had recently been presented with the Award for Meritorious Service (APAGB) from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain in recognition of outstanding service to affiliated photographic societies and their members. Winners of the print competition were: 1, Abandoned Slate Quarry by David Mills; 2, Route 54, Iceland by Bob Sherrard,; 3, Freezing Mist in Yellowstone by Gay Biddlecombe. High Commended: Quintessentially English by Edward Sturgeon; Autumn Mist, Wesleydale by Liz Scott; Fjarlsarlow Glacier by Bryony Bruce; Above Talybont, Brecon Beacons by Rob Shepherd; and Il Rigo Hills by Pat Broad. Winners of the PDI Competition were: 1, Desert Metropolis by Alan Pearce; 2, Lagune Colorada, Bolivia by Roy Morris; 3, Namid Desert from the Air by Gay Biddlecombe. Highly commended: La Garia by Terry McGhie; Dungeness by Alison Morris; Goodland and Badlands by Gerald Hartley; Growing under Tuscan Skies by Janice Payne; and Winter Sunrise in Venice by Janice Payne. John Deller thanked Richard for his honest professional appraisal. He said his appraisal hit the nail on the head pointing out good and bad.

In the Sussex Photographic Federation PDI Championship 2016 a total of 21 Sussex clubs took part. Hailsham Photographic Society had a really good day with some fantastic results and comments from the Judges. Results in the development class from three judges with a possible 20 marks each (total of 60 marks could be awarded) were as follows: Rob Shepherd, Faking it (57), David Phillips, Bittern in Flight (57), Martin Rummary, Fiona (56), Shawn Freeborn, Gondalas by Night (52), Keith Deverson, High and Dry (50), Keith Deverson, Winter Sunrise (49). We finished third in this class with a score of 321. Results in the open class were: Liz Scott ARPS AFIAP, 4.50 from Paddington (57), Eileen James LRPS, Ethereal Flight (56), Janice Payne ARPS, Foggy Walk to Work (56), Sean Keen, Skunk Clownfish on Anemone (55), Janet Monk ARPS, Pink (55), Terry Maskell, Silencio (54). HPS finished in an amazing first place in this class with a score of 333. Overall Hailsham Photographic Society won the Sussex Photographic Federation PDI Championship 2016 with eight clear marks in front of second place. This really is a great achievement for HPS thank you to everyone that submitted pdi’s for consideration.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON: Next Friday, November 25, the town will officially switch on its Christmas lights. Hailsham is gearing up for a spectacular show on Vicarage Field. There will be festive entertainment and the town centre transformed into a winter wonderland of twinkling Christmas lights by Anthony Penrose, son of wartime photographer Lee Miller at 6pm alongside the lucky winners of the Best Christmas Pizza Design. There will also be the Peter Willson Choir at 5pm, and carol singing from students of Hailsham Community College and Grovelands Community Primary School at 5.30pm. There will also be a candy floss by Hailsham Lions, a tombola, Santa and his Sleigh with Hailsham Rotary Club handing out free sweets to children and Hailsham FM playing Christmas music throughout the event. Pop into Hailsham Parish Church afterwards from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for free coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
