Hallowe’en hair-raisers’ helping hand in Wick

WICKED witches, ghoulish ghosts and petrifying pirates were just some of the spooky cohorts doing their bit to support a worthy cause in Wick.

As Hallowe’en rolled by, workers at the Morrisons supermarket, Hawthorn Road, slipped into fancy dress to help raise cash for the local branch of Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

The frightening fundraisers spent the day shaking buckets and urging customers to donate whatever loose change they had to support the charity – which provides specially-trained dogs for deaf people or those hard of hearing.

Members of the charity were also in the store.

They had their own stall selling a range of items, from Christmas cards, to books.

Diana Marangos has been supported by Hearing Dogs for the Deaf for 17 years.

She attended the afternoon alongside her dog, Pepe, and friend Helen Duke.

“It’s very important for us to get support. We need to make the charity more prominent and make people aware of it. Pepe has changed my life and given me a confidence I did not have before.”

It is hoped the charity raised about £100.
