The Staffordshire bull terrier cross puppies, now in the care of Blue Cross pet charity, were discovered when a passer-by spotted a cardboard box at a bus stop in Cranbrook that appeared to be moving. When he went for a closer look, he discovered a litter of four tiny puppies inside.

Although their finder managed to rehome two of the puppies with friends and family, he wasn’t able to find takers for the remaining two and asked to the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Northiam for help.

The motherless pups, now named Snuggle and Puggle, are being cared for by a Blue Cross volunteer foster carer until they are old enough to find permanent new homes.

Maria Steel, centre manager at Northiam Blue Cross, said: “Snuggle and Puggle and their two siblings were far too young to be separated from their mother. It’s really lucky they were found when they were, or they probably wouldn’t have survived.

“Sadly, unwanted puppies and kittens are becoming more and more common. If only more people would get their pets neutered, we wouldn’t be faced with the problem of so many pets being given up. But if you do have pets that you can’t care for, please come to an organisation like Blue Cross for help, rather than abandoning them to fend for themselves.”

Last year, Blue Cross rehoming centres took in over 8,000 pets across the UK, more that 2,000 of which were stray or abandoned. To find out more about the pets currently looking for homes or to make a donation, visit www.bluecross.org.uk.
