Hastings Midsummer Fish Fest to return

The free event takes place on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 on the Stade Open Space.

The Midsummer Fish Fest was introduced by Hastings Borough Council after the success of the Seafood and Wine Festival and Herring Fair and kicks off a summer of events on The Stade.

Councillor Kim Forward, deputy leader of the council and lead member for marketing, said: “The Midsummer Fish Fest is a great event, popular with residents and visitors alike.

“There will be a great selection of food and drink from restaurants, street vendors, bakeries, wine and cider producers and ‘Great Taste’ award winners. The FILO brewery will be running a beer festival and there will also be delicious and nautical gifts to take home.

“Once again, the festival will open with the beautiful sounds of Hastings Sinfonia. They will be playing a programme of short popular pieces and will be joined by two soloists, Christopher Beaumont on xylophone and Thomasina Triose, soprano.

“The Hastings Sinfonia was founded in 2012 by composer and pianist Polo Piatti, who was recently commissioned to compose a new orchestral piece to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“The piece will have its Hastings premiere by Hastings Sinfonia during the Midsummer Fish Fest.”

Other performances include Karis Thompson and the Lost Weekend, Lumpy and the Lumpettes, Strum ‘n’ Bass and London-based Indie Award nominee Katey Brookes.

Cllr Forward added: “Visitors can enjoy the long summer evening as Stade Saturdays returns with a performance by Fumi Okiji’s Old Time Jazz Band.

“There will be cooking demonstrations in Classroom on the Coast, the unique seafood training kitchen based within the Stade Hall.

“Paul Webbe, owner and chef of Webbe’s and the Wild Mushroom will show you how to make one of his tasty seafood creations and Olly Dawson from Olly’s Fish Shack will show you how to cook your own street food with Hastings fish.

“Children can also be entertained in the Stade Hall where there will be craft activities of a fishy nature.

“The Midsummer Fish Fest was set up to promote Hastings fishing fleet, so after enjoying the festival fun, why not take a wander round the net huts, speak to the Fishermen’s Protection Society and get inspired to buy, and cook with, locally caught, seasonal fish.”
