VISITORS to the Lewes Streets Ahead Exhibition, which opens on September 16, are being invited to take part in seminars and workshops that will focus on different aspects of transport in the town.

The chamber of commerce will be considering ways of retaining the commercial vitality of the town; the Lewes Strategic Partnership will look at the transport needs of residents; and the Friends of Lewes will debate how traffic and transport affect the historic core of Lewes.

Seminars are being held by East Sussex County Council consultants at lunch times and evenings every day of the exhibition in the Lewes Corn Exchange.

They will discuss design proposals for the Eastgate area, the Cliffe, Lewes to Ringmer cycle route, a bus priority corridor and the Lewes parking strategy.

Cllr Tony Reid, member for transport and environment, has welcomed the contribution of local groups to the exhibition and consultation process.

'The various proposals look at a wide range of options and opportunities for the future of traffic and transport in Lewes and we need the widest possible debate so that what eventually evolves takes account of the needs of the town, its businesses, residents and visitors,' he said.

The exhibition runs until September 19 before moving to Harvey's Yard in Cliffe High Street on September 21

Entrance is free.
