SAD NEWS: Many readers of The Buzz will have heard that Canon Paul Cox died very suddenly on Sunday afternoon (November 5) at his home in Heathfield. The Rev’d Mitch, vicar of the Benefice of Heathfield Churches wrote: ‘this deeply sad and shocking news will take time for us all to come to terms with, and our thoughts and prayers are very much with Jenny and the family at this time. Paul was dedicated to serving the churches in Heathfield, and many of you, I know, will have come to see him as your parish priest as he, along with others, helped to carry the Benefice of Heathfield through the recent interregnum, and his involvement for many years prior to that’. In the process of coming to terms with Paul’s sudden passing, a short service of prayer and reflection was held at 5.30pm on Monday November 6 at St Richard’s Church. This provided an opportunity for those across the Benefice to come together in prayer to remember Paul and to pray for his family.

Dr Sue Greener, one of our Benefice Readers wrote: ‘our service of evening prayers for Paul on Monday at St Richard’s was a moving reminder of how much our lovely Paul, his ministry, his books and his clarity of thought meant to our community. We will miss his leadership and guidance and we thank God for his formative presence in our lives’. Paul began parish ministry in 1990 after teaching for 24 years including as chaplain and headmaster of a prep school. He served in rural parishes in Canterbury Diocese and also had several Diocesan jobs related to ministry. He was made an honorary Canon of Canterbury Cathedral and was an assistant director of ordinands in the Chichester Diocese.
