AFTERNOON TEA: On Saturday April 1 at 3pm, at Hellingly Church, Daisy Pipperage Requests the Pleasure is an afternoon tea and entertainment. Contact Marian Richards 01323 441458 for ticket details.

BLUEBELL WALK: Running from Saturday April 8 to May 15, this year marks the 45th year of the Arlington Bluebell Walk. Over that first weekend Upper Dicker Village Hall and Church will be running the tea room and entry to the site. There are many exciting changes including giving a new look to the website at www.bluebellwalk.co.uk. From the Upper Pond, there is an additional entrance to the White Walk which has been extended round the maize field to cater for this. This path has a stone surface, as does the River Walk alongside this field, so lessening muddy boots on wet days. The existing square signs describing the flora and fauna around the Blue Walk have been looking rather tired, so all have been replaced. They list plants, trees and animals you may see when it is quiet, also mentions some animals and birds we would rather not see in Beatons Wood and the reasons why not. Last year we saw many more small paths created off the Blue Walk into the bluebells, resulting in the leaves and flowering stems being trampled, so they are probably damaged for this year. We saw metal hoops being used at Sheffield Park, to keep their visitors on their main paths, so we are trying that idea this year and hope we don’t upset too many keen photographers and inquisitive children. The boarding around the Animal Barn has been replaced. On one of the 8’ x 4’ boards is an enlarged picture, taken by Pete Goldsmith, resident photographer, early one morning at the Lower Pond as the sun was rising. He has also provided another one for the Gents toilet, to mimic the one put in the Ladies last year. Finally, the kitchen in the Bluebell Barn has been enlarged to assist the charities with their catering arrangements, but it has meant that the Action for Medical Research’s second hand book room has had to be re-arranged.

ADVANCE NOTICES: There will be a Pet Rescue Dog Show on Sunday May 7 starting at noon at Dicker Village Hall. Lots of classes, entries from 11am. There is also a quiz on Saturday May 13 at 7.30pm at Dicker Village Hall. Adults £7.50, under 12s £4, includes two course supper with tea or coffee. Bring, your own other drinks.
