Help for Hayley

A FAMILY pulled together over the winter months to raise money for Bexhill High pupil Hayley Okines, who suffers from the rare ageing illness Progeria.

Mary and Barry Taylor organised a series of bingo events and cake stalls, and have handed over a cheque for 350 to Hayley.

The Taylors live in Burwash - the same village as Hayley's grandmother -and they decided to help Hayley after seeing her on the Jeremy Kyle Show last year on ITV1.

Hayley is one of only two children in the country with the condition and was also the subject of a Channel 5 film in the series Extraordinary People.

Mum Kerry said, 'It is really good to see people who have raised money for Hayley. Without this kind of help we could never afford to get the treatment she needs. We really appreciate it.'

Kerry and her family are currently trying to organise the first ever Progeria meeting. The aim is to bring together 24 youngsters and their families from across Europe so they can interact with each other.
