Help is still needed for Littlehampton bonfire fair

THE Littlehampton Bonfire Society is once again calling on the generosity of the townsfolk to support them in staging this year’s bonfire spectacular.

The organisation needs to raise around £25,000 in order to stage the annual bonfire night celebrations, in October.

And to help get the fund-raising ball rolling, the group is hosting its much-loved May Fair. The event will take place at St James’ Church hall, in East Ham Road, on Saturday, May 11, from 2pm.

It will be a “Mecca” for bargain hunters, said the society secretary Richard Cooper, with everything from books, brick-à-brac, plants, a tombola, a bumper raffle and delicious home-made delicacies on offer.

A profit of £1,837 last year helped bring the total raised by the annual fair since the first one in 1995 to more than £19,500.

Richard said: “The cost of our 2012 celebrations was £25,000 and the cost this year is likely to be similar to this. It is not easy for a small society in the current economic climate to raise this sort of money. We are aiming to maintain the standard of Bonfire Night but we need a great deal of help in order to do so.”

The society is still looking for people to donate prizes to the raffle. Those interested should call 01903 713556, email [email protected] or see Tyndall Jones, at David O Jones Sports, in High Street.
