Help Lions Club make a splash for charities

Now that we have completed our Christmas collections - which raised £6,651.70 thanks to generosity of the people of Horsham and the support of numerous local pubs and businesses - which has already been put to good use by helping the local night shelter and the Horsham Women's Refuge at Christmas, we must now move on to our Swimarathon.

In November 2015 it was announced that Horsham Lions were organising their fifth annual Swimarathon, which will take place at The Pavilions in The Park on Sunday March 13 in aid of two community based Charities, namely Hop, Skip and Jump Centre and The Butterfly Project, who respectively support children and young adults with a variety of physical and learning difficulties.

Hop Skip and Jump, opened its centre’s doors in Swan Walk in mid-2015.

It provides care for anyone with special needs for up to two hours, through its soft play, sensory room and wet room areas.

Professionally trained staff provides fun activities, thus allowing parents or careers some free time. In order to expand the types of activities, Hop Skip and Jump are looking to purchase a variety of equipment, total cost £3,150.

The Butterfly Project, has its own shop and workshops at 31 Springfield Road Horsham.

It provides young adults with both learning and physical disabilities, with opportunities to work by undertaking local paper rounds, woodwork and metal work, cooking, gardening, watering plants at local stations, DJ skills and music technology.

In addition these young adults are taught how to reach the location of these jobs by using local transport. The Butterfly Project is in need of wheelchairs for use by these young people as well as other equipment, which will cost in the region of £2,000.

If you are individuals, a school, club or organisation who would like to help their local community and at the same time are looking to raise funds for your own activities or charity then this is an ideal opportunity because there is no entry fee to the event and all we ask is that 50% of the money you raise is donated to Horsham Lions chosen charity.

There is still plenty of slots left to fill between 1pm and 5pm, so Horsham Lions are calling on individuals, all schools, clubs, organisations, and businesses with individuals between the ages of 7 to 70 years to enter a team or teams to help raise the £5,150 needed to replace the equipment for these two local charities.

You can obtain the Invitation Pack, including the entry form by going to the Horsham Lions Club Website: [email protected] or contact Lion Tom Osborne at E- Mail: tomosborne [email protected].

The closing date for Horsham Lions to receive the entry forms is Monday February 8, so there is no time to lose to claim the spot.

Horsham Lions wish to continue with the work in our Community and beyond, but in order to do so it would most helpful, to have additional ‘community minded people’, join us, who would enjoy giving some of their free time. We also enjoy having fun and socialising.

If there is anyone who would like to give time to support your communities please contact Lion Tom Osborne E-Mail: [email protected].
