Nationally, the number of water voles has been in decline. However, with the help of the Arundel Wetland Centre, the animals have seen a healthy boost locally.

The wetland centre is now preparing its own training session for more people to join its ‘Vole Patrol’.

The event will be held at the centre, in Mill Road, on Saturday, May 9, from 10am to 4pm.

Water vole experts Fran Southgate and Dawn Scott will be leading the morning classroom session followed by an outdoor water vole survey event in the afternoon.

Training is free. However, those wanting to join the team must be able to commit to a minimum of one year surveying.

Spaces are limited and should be booked in advance.
