Henfield pumpkin event great success

HENFIELD staged its annual pumkin event at the weekend, which included competitions for the heaviest pumpkin, best dressed pumpkin, as well as a children's pumkpin drawing competition.

The contest raised 670 for children's organisations following a bumper turnout.

The bad summer had affected the weight of entries this year but there was still plenty of competition in all the categories '“ best-dressed pumpkin, adult and children's giant pumpkins and a children's colouring competition.

Organiser John Tysoe, of Henfield Club, said: "This was our fifth year and we did not break our record of 301lb because of the weather. But we were very pleased with the turnout."

District councillor Sheila Matthews judged entries at Saturday's event, and newsagent Linda Stokes won the giant pumpkin event with a specimen weighing in at 147.4lb (66.8kg), beating Marc Manbridge who had travelled from Bognor Regis with his pumpkin that weighed 140lb (63kg).
