High School students portray town history in "eyewitness" film

STUDENTS from Bexhill High School and Robertsbridge Community College have created films tracing the history of their communities from Saxon times to World War Two.

The Rother Special News Report project has been organised by East Sussex film and media charity Sound Architect. It was made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery and funding from Rother council.

Now their work is being premiered together with an exhibition at the De La Warr Pavilion. Admission to the 7pm screening of Rother Special News Report on Tuesday, July 15 is free. Tickets are limited but can be reserved by phoning Sound Architect on 07592 021590.

Rother Special News Report is described as local history with a twist. Historical events are reported as eye-witness news and combines being informative with being amusing - with hilarious out-takes.

The students undertook historical research in their own towns, made visits to Bodiam Castle, Bateman's and Battle as well as to local libraries and museums.

Each school selected three eras to study and created news reports of the historic events they felt had helped shape their towns.
