Homework help for grown-ups

Hands up all those who have problems with their children's homework?

If maths and English seem like a foreign language it could be time to get help - but you're not alone.

Free courses to help parents and carers with homework have proved so popular that the Kip McGrath tuition centre is now to hold sessions in the evening to suit those who cannot attend during the day.

The centre has already run courses to help parents understand homework needs as well how to become webwise and protect youngsters using the internet. The courses are all free and funded by East Sussex County Council.

Centre director Sian Crossland said: "We have had a really good uptake from Bexhill parents - it has been really good. We have run about six courses and they have all been full, with about eight people on each, so we are looking at maybe 50 parents in all which is pretty good going. The webwise ones are really popular and we have done three of them now."

The centre, which is based in the TFI building in Beeching Road, is to start a new course in numeracy and maths on Monday May 19 from 7-9pm.

Sian said: "This is our first evening course by request. We have had parents saying they really want to do a course but can't because during the day they are at work.

"Places are filling up fast and are limited, so please call 01424 214412 to reserve a place as soon as possible. The parents who have already done this course have found it invaluable.

"There are also a few spaces left on our Friday morning English course - your chance to see what children are doing in school as well as polish up your own skills."
