Hooded man slashes bowling green

A MYSTERY bowling green-slasher is being hunted by police.

An anonymous caller alerted the force at 5.12 last Thursday morning that a hooded man, dressed in black, was laying on the Egerton Park outdoor green and slashing it with a 12-inch carving knife.

Firefighters were also called after a report that the man, said to be in his late twenties or early thirties, had piled wood against the door of the nearby Spartans and Lakeside bowling clubs' pavilion.

The fire crew found no damage to the pavilion but police found slash marks on the green, re-laid only two years ago.

The man had gone when emergency services arrived.
