A later call came in at midnight when the owner of a silver Citroen Saxo in Collington Lane West reported she had found all the windows smashed in and a stone left on the back seat.

A further complaint came half an hour later of hooligans causing damage to cars in Birkdale but no evidence of this was found.

Meanwhile just after 1am four youths were seen breaking windows at Smith and Humphrey's garage on Ninfield Road in Sidley.

Five panes of glass were broken, each one measuring 1ft by 1ft.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and ask anyone with information to call PC Dunn on 0845 60 70 999.
