Hope for new classroom

BARCOMBE Primary School may get a new classroom after all.

East Sussex County Council last week turned down a bid for a 20,000 loan for the classroom, saying it would increase the admissions limit, thereby possibly affecting the future viability of other schools in the Chailey area. A temporary classroom might be a better alternative, council officers added.

But following an emergency meeting Rosalyn Hurst, chairman of the Barcombe School governors, said the school was now more hopeful of the money coming though.

The school had explained that it had no intention of drawing children away from other schools but it did have a greater than normal influx of pupils, particularly in years four, five and six.
