Horsham-based dinner raises more than £1000 for brain charity

A ‘Ladies Festival Dinner’ has raised £1100 for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT).

The event was organised by Horsham’s Carfax Lodge who decided to donate the money to BIRT’s Kerwin Court in memory of their friend, Henry Drury, who died from a brain aneurysm two years ago.

Peter Lewis, of Carfax Lodge, said: “It seemed appropriate to make a donation to a trust that helps others with brain injuries.”

Kerwin Court, which was opened in 2007, is a specialist residential centre that provides rehabilitation, specialist care and support for people with an acquired brain injury.

Kerwin Court plan to spend the money on three new computers for service users which they say will help their rehabilitation through practising cognitive exercises and social activity opportunities such as Facebook and Skype.

Wendy Fletcher, Service Manager of Kerwin Court, said: “The service users have a better opportunity to express themselves, as well as being able to participate in what was previously an inaccessible activity.”
