Horsham dog crowned ‘Best Puppy in Breed’ at Crufts

Eight-month-old Tibetan Terrier Bell took home the title at the weekend.

Her owner, Sue Garner, 74, of Hernbrook Drive, is a veteran contestant at the world’s largest dog show.

In December last year Bell qualified at the Ladies Kennel Association championships, earning her a place at Crufts in Birmingham.

Bell stormed to victory after little more than two months of training.

“It’s something really special,” said Mrs Garner, describing how it feels to have earned the award.

The dog trainer has been involved in competitions and Crufts in particular since 1968.

One of her first dogs was attacked while in an obedience class.

Other owners recommended she took her dog to show training classes where pets stay on the lead.

Mrs Garner quickly found a passion for training her dogs and entering them in competitions.

She has since had the honour to be a judge at Crufts on a number of occasions including the centenary event in 1991.

Mrs Garner wanted to take the opportunity to raise concerns about the amount of dog excrement on playing fields around the Hernbrook Drive area.

She is urging owners to clear up after their dogs and think of others who used the greenery.

The dog trainer added: “I’m disgusted by the amount of poo I’ve had to pick up.”
