Horsham's Shelley Fountain sold

Horsham's iconic Shelley Fountain is set to leave the town after 20 years following its sale, the council has confirmed.

The controversial sculpture was removed from the town centre in June after towering over the Bishopric since 1996.

It was discovered in Les Searle’s storage yard in Parsonage Road a week later before being put up for sale privately by Horsham District Council.

A HDC spokesman told the County Times: “The prospective new owner of the Shelley Fountain does not wish to disclose any details regarding the purchase of the sculpture until they have taken possession of it.

“The council has made significant savings in the relocation of the fountain which is set to be refurbished and positioned in the grounds of a country manor house in Kent.”

Councillors approved the removal of the Rising Universe in April after it cost in excess of £200,000 in repairs and maintenance.

A new planting scheme has been created in the splash pool area including 16 new birch trees.
