Hospice appeals for volunteers for new Bexhill shop

SAINT Michael's Hospice is preparing to open a new charity shop in Bexhill and is looking for volunteers to help run it.

St Michael's Hospice portfolio of eight shops across the area raise a considerable amount of money towards Hospice, the running costs of which currently stand at 5 million a year .

Following last year's closure of the Hospice's Pine Tree restaurant in St Leonards Road, which was running at a loss, managers at St Michael's felt it very important to maintain a presence in Bexhill, particularly in view of the loyal support which the Hospice attracts in the area.

Suitable premises were identified at 79 Devonshire Road situated near the sea and close to the De La Warr Pavilion car park.

It is hoped the attractive, light and airy shop will open soon.

Chris Jones, trading manager for the hospice, said: "At this time of year people often make New Year resolutions to give something back to the community. The hospice shop work goes a long way to support hospice services that care for over 4,000 individuals and their families each year in Bexhill, Hastings and Rother.

"I can say to potential volunteers that we organize convenient shifts to suit individual needs and working in our new shop will be interesting and fun.
