Mayoress Norah Fisher and deputy mayor Vic Walker were on hand to announce the opening.

Mrs Jones said: “It was an amazing night and Vic, Norah and her dog, Herbie, did us proud.

“We opened our doors last Wednesday and although it is early days, the response from the public so far has been really good.”

The gallery boasts a unique collection of art, including silver, jewellery, ceramics and paintings.

Mrs Jones will also run glasswork workshops when the gallery is more established.

She said: “I have been on the circuit for 16 years, so I have used all my networking contacts to get this place up and running.

“We have got the work of some of Britain’s finest artists here. It is a great selection.”
