The event was organised by Church Together in Hastings and St Leonards, with hospitality was provided by Kings Church.

There were an array of eye-catching displays dotted around the hall, showing the work of 25 local Christian projects.

The event has grown in the last few years.

Event chairman John Lyttle, of Hastings and St Leonards Church Together, remarked: “This is the only church building now where we can fit it in.”

During the event, a DVD was screened, promoting the singing of Handel’s Messiah at Hastings Castle on August 13.

So far 167 singers have already signed up to join professional singers and musicians for the special event.

The event also included a presentation of the latest Loaf Project, Wheels of Mercy.

The aim of the project is to provide a minibus to transport children in Pakistan with learning disabilities to a specialist day centre.

More than £4,000 has already been raised for the cause.

The main speaker at the Unity service was Rev Dr Joel Edwards, a regular Radio 4 broadcaster, who is currently working in support of Christians suffering persecution around the world.

He challenged local Christians to ‘translate’ the communication of their faith into their projects around the town.
