Hundreds of insurance jobs to go as office shuts

HUNDREDS of staff at insurance giant Norwich Union are to lose their jobs after the company announced it was leaving its Broadwater home.

It said on Friday that insurance operations at The Warren, in Warren Road, would cease within the next two years, resulting in more than 660 job losses.

Around 100 staff at the office not affected by the changes will move to a smaller office within the town. The Warren office will close by the end of 2010.

The cuts are part of a country-wide cull of almost 1,800 posts as the Aviva company looks to consolidate its general insurance operations into seven centres at Norwich, Perth, Bishopbriggs, Stretford, Manchester, Leicester and Southend.
