The Battle Area Bus Country Service starts operating soon.. On the following dates there will be a bus to;- Eastbourne 13 August . Rye 23 August. Tenterden 21 September. For those with bus passes the fares will be between £6-£5.80 Travellers will have from 11am until 2.45 at the destination. The Historical Society visited Standen House, East Grinstead last week and toured the house and gardens. They were blessed with good weather and report having had a “wonderful time”. There is much William Morris wallpaper in the house which was of special interest to the Hurst Greeners, for Holy Trinity church is decorated in that style. It is to be hoped that the church can soon be used again for Sunday worship and concerts when the wall decorations can be seen.

The Historical Society opens up again in September for its monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at the Village Hall. Chairman 01580 880 983.

The cricket team played two fixtures at the week-end. On Friday last they lost to Linden Park by getting all out for 167 in reply to the opponent’s score of 205, despite D. Neil’s 55, Guy Ballard’s 43 and David Baldock’s 26.

Sunday saw another lost game against Clive Vale but in an exciting finish as Hurst Green looked liked winning handsomely until the last pair wagged the tail and got the 193 runs needed to win by 1 wicket. Hurst Green had declared at tea on their 192-4.

David Baldock was man of the match as he scored 84 and took 3-34. Ian Austin also made a useful 39. Next game is versus K. Packenham’s X1 at Drewett’s Field.

Church services are at St. Mary’s Salehurst at 11am also at 9 am a short Communion Service is held in the Church Room, Fair Lane, Robertsbridge.

Etchingham is at 10.30 during the summer but keep an eye on the Etchingham column as the Vicar, the Revd. Liz France is moving shortly.

Mobile Library is in place at the Village Hall on alternate Friday afternoons.

Both the Choir and Short Mat Bowling take place on Monday evenings the first at the school and the second at the Village Hall 7pm with singers at 8pm. so if you are a singing bowler you can do both.

Signs are that Avards the traditional and well loved local bakers has closed. Enquiries to the office have been unsuccessful but their Tenterden shop is still open for business so let us hope that it is merely refurbishment which has caused the closure.

Friendship club is going along well, Black Bin Day at the Village Hall.
