It is not necessary to attend every month but the meetings are held on the last Tuesday from about 7.30 until about 10pm. Perhaps that some one is newly retired or has just moved into Hurst Green? Maybe you have thought about serving your village in this way at times before, and, if so, now is your chance to step forward.

Following the item about the future of the church, (the date of the Village meeting is still being considered as dates are clashing) it is encouraging to report that there is renewed interest in helping the church should its opening be possible in the near future.

Meanwhile the Revd. Jack Lusted remains in charge of Hurst Green church - where the spring flowers dance in the lengthening days- and he will be happy to hear from anyone who wishes to get married, Christened or have a funeral there. (well maybe not happy for the last requirement). Ring 01580 880 408. Services take place at Salehurst church at 11.am Sunday also 9 am in the Church Room, Fair Lane, Roberstbridge there is a short Communion Service. Etchingham church services are advertised in the Etchingham column but vary with some specially for children and family.

Recently in this column there appeared a request for an adaptable chair for someone who is confined to bed. One has now been found for this person, but the report prompted a charity to offer to help with equipment when there is a genuine need. Those appealing for help must be either sick, elderly or disabled, and their request for help must be backed up by a GP, social worker, therapist or similar. Initially, if required, please contact the number given at the foot of this column and measures will be put in place to pass on the information to the right authority.

The Brownies celebrated Thinking Day by singing songs from all around the world, including a special selection from Trinidad and Tobago. They also played games from other countries and the evening was much enjoyed. Although the Brownie Group is full at the moment there is not a waiting list so if you want your daughter to join this excellent and fun-producing organisation call Miss Eyres on 15580 860 742 and your daughter will soon be experiencing a whole new world of enjoyment and fulfilment.

Several people from Hurst Green were among the large numbers who gathered in the Upper Lambing Field in Etchingham on Saturday 25 to plant trees for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. It was a very memorable event in the two communities’ histories.

This evening March 2, a concert takes place at Mistletoe Barn for the Meet of the Tongue Group when internationally acclaimed singer songwriter Saffron Sumerfield performs. Ring for all details 01580 860 529.

March 14 the Historical Society welcomes David Martin who will ask “Who lived in a House Like This?”.

The panto is on course to rock the village so get along for your tickets from Teknique. Only a few weeks to go before March 23/24 so make sure you‘ll be there. When buying a ticket pop in something for our troops as Lesley dispatches boxes of gifts for our Great Chaps on the front line, crisp, sweets, shaving items, washing gear, chewing gum etc. It sends the message “We care about you”.

Mobile library alternate weeks on Friday afternoons at the Village Hall.

Bus to shop in Peasmarsh at Jempsons collects passengers at 1.25 on Tuesday, from the George.
